Payment 1: GST/HST Credit One-Time Top-Up — June 5, 2026

This is the payment most Canadians are watching for in June 2026, and for good reason. It is a brand-new, one-time deposit that has never been issued before.

What Is the New One-Time CRA Tax Credit Payment in June 2026?

The federal government introduced this top-up as part of the transition to the Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit through Bill C-19, which received Royal Assent on February 12, 2026. Starting in July 2026, the GST/HST credit will be officially renamed the Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit, and quarterly amounts will increase by 25% for five years.

Before those enhanced quarterly payments begin, the government is issuing this special one-time deposit on June 5 to give eligible Canadians an immediate boost.

June 2026 CRA Payment Amounts and Eligibility

The one-time top-up equals 50% of your total annual GST/HST credit for the July 2025 to June 2026 benefit year. More than 12 million Canadians with low and modest incomes are expected to receive this payment automatically, with no separate application needed.

Here are the maximum amounts based on family situation:

Family Situation

Maximum Top-Up

Single individual, no children

$267

Couple, no children

$349

Single parent, 1 child

$441

Couple, 1 child

$441

Single parent or couple, 2 children

$533

Single parent or couple, 3 children

$625

Single parent or couple, 4 children

Up to $717 (varies by family size)

These maximum amounts apply when your adjusted family net income falls below the CRA eligibility thresholds based on your 2024 tax return. As a practical example, a single person with $25,000 in net income will receive $267 on June 5.

A family of four with $40,000 in net income will receive $533 on June 5. When combined with the enhanced quarterly payments starting in July, a family of four could receive up to $1,890 in total Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit support in 2026.

Who Qualifies for June Payment 1?

You qualify automatically if you filed your 2024 tax return and were entitled to the GST/HST credit payment in January 2026. Your family situation is assessed as of January 2026. If you have shared custody of a child, each parent receives half the amount they would have received with full custody.

Important Note for Payment 1!

This payment may still appear as the GST/HST credit in your bank statement while financial institutions update their systems.

Payment 2: Ontario Trillium Benefit — June 10, 2026

If you are an Ontario resident, the next Ontario Trillium Benefit payment arrives on Wednesday, June 10, 2026.

What Is the Ontario Trillium Benefit, and Who Qualifies?

The Ontario Trillium Benefit is a tax-free monthly payment that combines three separate provincial credits into one deposit:

  • Ontario Energy and Property Tax Credit for people who paid rent or property tax on their main home
  • Northern Ontario Energy Credit for residents in designated northern areas
  • Ontario Sales Tax Credit for low and modest-income earners aged 19 or older

The CRA administers this benefit on behalf of the Ontario government. The June 10 payment is the final Ontario Trillium Benefit deposit of the current July 2025 to June 2026 benefit year.

How Much Could You Receive Through the Ontario Trillium Benefit in 2026?

The amount depends on your rent, property tax, location, and income. Yearly maximums are roughly:

  • Up to $378 per person for the Ontario Sales Tax Credit
  • Up to $1,488 for the Energy and Property Tax Credit
  • Up to $189 for a single person (or $290 for a family) for the Northern Ontario Energy Credit

Ontario residents who had their 2025 tax return assessed before June 19 will begin receiving the new benefit year payments starting in July 2026. If your annual Ontario Trillium Benefit entitlement is $360 or less, you will not receive a monthly payment in June and will instead receive a lump sum in July.

Upcoming Ontario Sales Tax Credit Increase in July 2026

The Ontario Sales Tax Credit component is increasing to $378 per person for the July 2026 to June 2027 benefit year, reflecting the latest inflation adjustment.

Payment 3: Canada Disability Benefit — June 18, 2026

The Canada Disability Benefit payment arrives on Thursday, June 18, 2026. This programme is one of the most significant additions to the federal social safety net in recent years, having launched in July 2025.

What Is the Canada Disability Benefit and Who Qualifies?

The Canada Disability Benefit is available to eligible Canadians between the ages of 18 and 64 who have been approved for the Disability Tax Credit. It is income-tested, meaning the amount you receive depends on your family income.

Single individuals receive the full $200 monthly benefit when their adjusted family net income is $23,000 or less. For every dollar earned above that threshold, the benefit is reduced by 20 cents. Couples where one partner is eligible receive the full benefit when the combined family income is $32,500 or less.

How Much Will You Receive from the Canada Disability Benefit?

The current maximum is $200 per month, or $2,400 annually. The June 18 deposit is the last Canada Disability Benefit payment at the current rate.

Upcoming Canada Disability Benefit Increase in July 2026

The CRA will apply a confirmed 2% indexation increase, raising the maximum monthly payment from $200 to $204 and increasing the income thresholds. This means more Canadians may qualify for the full amount beginning next month.

Payment 4: Canada Child Benefit (CCB) Payment Date — June 19, 2026

The Canada Child Benefit payment is scheduled for Friday, June 19, 2026. This is the final CCB payment of the current July 2025 to June 2026 benefit year.

What Is the Canada Child Benefit (CCB)?

The Canada Child Benefit is a tax-free monthly payment from the CRA that helps eligible families cover the cost of raising children under 18. It is one of the largest federal benefit programs in the country, reaching millions of Canadian households every single month.

Canada Child Benefit Payment Amounts for June 2026

Child’s Age

Maximum Annual Amount

Maximum Monthly Amount

Children under 6

$7,997

$666.41

Children aged 6 to 17

$6,748

$562.33

These maximum amounts apply to families with an adjusted family net income below $37,487. Payments gradually decrease once income exceeds that threshold, with a second reduction applying above $81,222.

Who Is Eligible for the Canada Child Benefit in 2026?

To be eligible, you must live with a child under 18 and be primarily responsible for their daily care. You or your partner must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, protected person, or a temporary resident who has lived in Canada for at least 18 consecutive months on a valid permit.

Newcomers to Canada can apply for the CCB as soon as they have a Social Insurance Number. You do not need to wait until after filing your first tax return.

Provincial Child Benefits Included with the CCB Payment

Most provinces fold their own child benefit into the federal CCB payment, so you receive one combined deposit each month with no separate application required. Current maximum monthly amounts include:

  • British Columbia: Up to $145.83 for the first child
  • Ontario: Up to $143.91 per child
  • Nova Scotia: Up to $127.08 per child
  • Yukon: Up to $78.08 per child
  • New Brunswick: Up to $41.66 per child
  • Northwest Territories: Up to $67.91 for the first child
  • Nunavut: Up to $53.16 per child
  • Prince Edward Island: Up to $30 per child

Important Note for Families in Alberta and Quebec

Alberta and Quebec run their child benefits separately, so they are not included in the June 19 CCB deposit.

How Much Will CCB Payments Increase in July 2026?

Starting with the July 20, 2026, deposit, the CRA will apply a confirmed 2% inflation adjustment. This raises the maximum to $8,157 per year for children under six and $6,883 per year for children aged six to 17. Families at the maximum could see an increase of about $13.34 more per month for each younger child and $11.25 more per month for each older child.

Payment 5: Canada Pension Plan (CPP) and Old Age Security (OAS) Payment — June 26, 2026

Canada Pension Plan and Old Age Security payments are both scheduled for Friday, June 26, 2026. This is the final CPP and OAS payment of the current April-to-June 2026 quarter before amounts are reviewed again for July.

CPP and OAS Maximum Payment Amounts for June 2026

Benefit

Maximum Monthly Amount

CPP Retirement Pension (Age 65)

$1,507.65

Average CPP for New Recipients (Age 65)

$925.35

OAS Pension (Ages 65–74)

$743.05

OAS Pension (Ages 75 and Over)

$817.36

Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) – Single (Maximum)

$1,109.85

CPP Disability Pension (Maximum)

$1,741.20

A senior aged 75 or older who qualifies for the maximum CPP retirement pension and full OAS could receive up to $2,325.01 from those two payments combined in June.

Who Is Eligible for CPP Retirement Benefits?

CPP is funded by contributions from workers and employers during your working years in Canada. You can start receiving CPP as early as age 60 or delay it until age 70 for a higher monthly amount. The amount you receive depends on how much you earned, how many years you contributed, and the age at which you begin your pension.

Most people receive less than the maximum CPP because the maximum requires consistent contributions at or near the annual ceiling over a full career. Residents of Quebec are not eligible for CPP and instead receive the Quebec Pension Plan.

OAS and GIS Eligibility Requirements for Canadian Seniors

For OAS, you need to be 65 or older, have legal status in Canada, and meet residency requirements. A full pension generally requires 40 years of Canadian residence after age 18, though a partial pension is available after 10 years.

Seniors with 2024 net world income above $95,323 may have a portion of their OAS reduced through what is commonly called the OAS clawback.

The Guaranteed Income Supplement provides additional non-taxable monthly support for low-income seniors who already receive OAS. For a single person, the income cutoff is $22,512 to qualify.

Upcoming July 2026 Changes to Federal Benefits and Pension Payments

July 2026 marks the start of a new benefit year, and several important changes are taking effect:

  • Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit: The GST/HST credit is officially renamed starting July 3, and quarterly amounts will be 25% higher for five years.
  • Canada Child Benefit: Maximum amounts rise by 2%, giving families more support to cover the cost of raising children.
  • Canada Disability Benefit: The maximum monthly payment increases from $200 to $204, with higher income thresholds.
  • OAS: Amounts undergo their regular quarterly review based on the latest Consumer Price Index data.

Why Filing Your 2025 Tax Return Is Important for CRA Benefits

All income-tested benefits will be recalculated using 2025 tax return data starting in July. If your income changed significantly between 2024 and 2025, your benefit amounts may increase or decrease.

Filing your 2025 tax return before the April 30 deadline was essential because the CRA cannot recalculate your benefits without current tax information, and late filing can delay payments by several weeks or months.

Frequently Ask Questions

Do I need to apply separately for the June 5 top-up?

No! If you filed your 2024 tax return and were entitled to the January 2026 GST/HST credit payment, the CRA will calculate and issue the top-up automatically on June 5.

No! Receiving the one-time top-up will not reduce your Canada Child Benefit, Ontario Trillium Benefit, Canada Workers Benefit, or any other federal or provincial payment you currently receive.

Permanent residents can apply for most CRA benefits as soon as they arrive. Temporary residents may qualify for certain benefits after meeting specific residency requirements, such as at least 18 consecutive months in Canada for the CCB. The best first step is to file a tax return and check your entitlements through CRA My Account.

Almost all of these payments are based on your reported income from the previous year. Filing a return ensures the CRA has the information it needs to calculate your payments accurately. For some programmes, you also need to register with the CRA rather than waiting for payments to begin automatically.
